Dr.Betotte Metronome App Reviews

Excellent Metronome

I work as a bassoonist and bass guitar player and find this metronome to be invaluable. There are so many options to create the help you need to play accurately and precisely, and the GUI has only grown better with each update. If you are looking for an alternative to buying an expensive and cumbersome Dr Beat, this is not only that, but an improvement. With sound options and the ability to save beat creations, you will always find what you need. Excellent app. Not a single thing bad about it!

Great app... but...

Im a music teacher of 35 years and still have my original Dr Beat from the 1970s. Always loved it, but now that I have an iPhone, why not run it as an app? So I got this and its GREAT! Some others said it doesnt stay steady, but Ive used it now for a week in and out of lessons and there is really no problem with the beat on my iPhone4. Rock solid steady. Great job there. And the feature set is even better than my original Dr Beat. Great job again! There are two problems that need addressing, and when they are done, Ill move my rating up one point for each. First, you need to jack up the volume. I have one other metronome app Ive used in the past (not as many features as yours) that is very easy to hear, especially with the new iPhone4 speaker volume level. Ive used yours in lessons now, but found I needed to plug my phone into an amp to get it usable with a wind instrument (I teach clarinet and sax). I dont see any reason why we cant set this up for a bit more volume. Second, sometimes when you initially launch the app, it resets to all sounds on full. Kind of chaotic. It would be great it if better remembers the last setting and picked up from there more reliably. If you can adjust those two things, Id definitely move my rating up to 5 stars and say it fully justifies the price premium for a great Dr Beat replacement.

Does not keep time

Although this metronome has some really great features, it fails at its most basic level...it cant keep time. Ive compared it to both my Dr. Beat DB-90 and a stop watch and it slows down EVERY time (although sometimes it happens faster than others.) If keeping exact time isnt important to you its got some cool features, like swing time and can automatically increase the tempo. 2 stars for features 0 stars for tempo inaccuracy. The point of a metronome is to keep a steady beat. If it cant, IMVHO, its worthless.

Descent, needs update

Lots of great features in this app. I did notice that it is not exactly correct on the tempo when compared to my DB 90. At around 120 it seems rock solid, but as the tempo gets further away from that center point it is further out of time. Very frustrating to have to Set this met to 183 to get e tempo of around 180. Update please!!!

No No No

There is only one reason to use a metronome. Keep time. This does not.

Needs to be updated

It has been months since the last update and this app still contains bugs that need fixing. The most notable is that upon launching, all subdivision faders are at full volume. Not worth $10 for non existent updates.

Good stuff! Like a Dr. Beat!

I use this app all the time. Im a band director and use it in class daily.

Have used this for years for lessons and performing…

This is nearly a dead ringer for my Boss Dr. Beat DB-88 with the addition that the app can store scenes. Its been easy to use and great while teaching guitar lessons and needing to have a tempo handy during a live performance that I can see without hearing it. I can mute it and just put it in a mode where it flashes. Someone complained about the lack of updates, but its worked fine - and hasnt needed any updates in my mind. I even use it on my iPad2. It works in the background (a good thing) - so you do need to remember to stop it!

ICSOMplayer

Those saying it doesnt keep time must not realize it has functions that change the tempo incrementally... which I find to be a hugely useful practice aid! Those claiming for a $10 app it isnt updated enough need to get their heads out of their iPads... It does MORE than traditional metronomes costing 10-15x as much!!! My DB88 was dying and I had just bought an iPhone so this was a more than perfect replacement! ONLY $10, fits in my pocket, I always have it with me, and does a drone AND beat at the same time(something I always wished a dr beat would do!) if you already have an iPhone and need a metronome for any level of music making the value simply cant be beat!!!

Almost perfect

This is, by far, the best metronome app Ive ever seen or used. You can do a lot with it, and I find it particularly useful for those who want to practice odd meters or specific grouping of beats within a measure (like a 7/8 played as 2+2+3, or 2+3+2 etc). It is really the only app that can do that, an its pretty awesome at it. The only drawback I found is that it needs a separate, specific click for the first beat in a measure. Its easy to get lost while playing a complicated 7/8 like that when all the clicks sound the same, and a big "one" click would make it a lot easier. I truly hope they add this in an update - then this would be the perfect metronome.

The best.

I’ve been using Dr. Betotte since the iPhone and iPad were but twinkles in Steve Jobss eyes (It was originally a shareware desktop app). It’s always been my favorite as I require a loud percussive metronome sound, which few apps have been able to achieve. What’s more, is this app offers the specific Dr. Beat sounds of my favorite devices - especially my beloved DB-66. I highly recommend this app. It’s well worth the price, considering actual metronomes go for about 10 times that. Enjoy!

Need support

I will give appropriate stars once i figure out how to get support. I have a fluctuating volume issue and cant find out how to get support. Please contact me or provide an easier way to get support

Absolutely The Best!

Okay, I know this app seems expensive at around $10... Trust me, its worth every penny and more! Its the only app I have found that emulates the boss db-90, but much better. The developer is quick to respond to emails as well. The only wish I have for the app is a slightly larger start/stop button and compatibility with the Airturn Bluetooth pedals. Regardless, this is a must have! I play drums for one of the largest churches in the US, as well as being a session drummer with many bands in the Houston area and I use a click a lot. Trust me Ive tried them all and this is the one!!!

No sound after updated to IOS 8....

No sound after updated to IOS 8.... Please update it.

I use this every day (and you should too)

This metronome is loud and it has all the beat divisions I could want. Its my constant practicing companion. Seishu Murakami, Ill do my best to get you a comp ticket when I win my first real orchestral job.

Review

Glad they added an iPad app but dislike the playlist sidebar that you cant get rid of! iPhone version is much better but overall both are a bit cluttered. Need to reduce some of the buttons and put them in a setting or preference menu. Still one of the best metronomes around!

I cant hear the sound!!!

I have tried restarting the app and my phone and I cannot hear the sound anymore after I updated my os on my I phone 4S.
